THANKSGIVING POEM

Next Thursday Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day. They remember when the first settlers arrived to America and all the troubles they had to go through.
It’s a day to spend with your family having a special food. People travel across the country in order to meet their relatives.

We are going to learn a little poem to commemorate this festival.
We will also have a theater play and other activities.
I hope you have fun!

THANKSGIVING

Many years ago the Pilgrims came.
They sailed on a ship - the Mayflower was its name.
They sailed across the Atlantic blue,
so they could worship the way they wanted to.
Many people died along the way,
and the first winter was hard they say.
The Native Americans were already here.
They helped the Pilgrims plant corn and hunt deer.
They all got together to share food and pray,
and that's why we celebrate Thanksgiving Day!

6/6/2014 Proverb

Actions speak louder than words means that what someone or a person says is different from what they do. This phrase is often used when someone makes a promise but he or she does not keep the promise.

Example:
Actions speak louder than words, and Juan definitely lets his football do the talking.

It's Raining Gumballs! It's raining gumballs!
It's raining gumballs!

It's raining gumballs! It's quite a wondrous treat.
They're falling from
the clouds above
and
They're falling from  the clouds above and bouncing off the street.

It's raining gumballs!
It's raining gumballs!
A sticky, spectacular shower.
I try to catch them
in my mouth
for hour upon hour.

It's raining gumballs!
It's raining gumballs!
I'm not sure of the reason,
but I'm

but I'm glad instead of
just the four,
we've not got gumball season!

PROVERB 6TH MAY

This week's proverb is:

Blood is thicker than water
 Explanation:
Family ties are stronger than other relationships

Example: blood is thicker than water and the man chose to help his family rather than his friends.

Remember to do a DIFFERENT PICTURE and a sentence that makes sense.

DICTATION 5º C APRIL 28TH

I hope this is the right file:

Spain is known worldwide for its cuisine. Tapas bars and paella can be seen in many different countries around the world. Similarly, Spain itself has witnessed an increasing number of immigrants from almost every part of the world. The influence of different cultures has had a tremendous effect on the restaurant scene in Madrid.
One of the major immigrant groups in Madrid come from Asia. Asia has brought a new culinary influence to the madrileño food scene. On March 7, 2014, I attended a very nice sushi restaurant near the Bilbao metro stop. Sumo is a sushi buffet and restaurant. The restaurant serves sushi, warm foods, noodles, soups, salads

Thanks for your patience!

MAY 8TH DICTATION 5º C

Today's dictation is:

As I was walking through plaza Dos de Mayo a few weekends ago, I came across Calle Velarde. On this street there is a collage of colorful graffiti painted on the buildings. There is a tattoo shop at the end of the street right next to the plaza. This street also has several vintage clothing shops.
Located just off the metro tribunal stop, Calle Velarde is every artistic person’s dream. The first shop I came across was “Pulcas,” Owned by a very kind older woman. This shop sells primarily women’s clothing. The shop has a unique style. The clothes look as if they are from the 1920’s. When I entered I saw racks of lavish fur coats. After passing the coats I came across a Varity of skirts, dresses and shoes. The prints on the clothing were bold and colorful. I walked deeper into the store and at the very end were old books and artworks. Pulcas is a magnificent place, you see the evolution of Spanish style in this place.

Next poem has to do with technology. Listen to the audio and practice.
You can do it in pairs.

Proverb 6

To shed crocodile tears.
EXPLANATION:
Crocodiles have a reflex that causes their eyes to tear when they open their mouths. This makes it look as though they are crying while devouring their prey.
In fact, neither crocodiles nor people who shed crocodile tears feel sorry for their actions.
EXAMPLES:
·        I didnt study for my exam as I was playing computer games. The next day my teacher asked me the lesson and I didnt know so, I started crying. Then my teacher told me I was shedding crocodile tears.
·        The child wasn't really hurt, but she shed crocodile tears anyway.
·        He thought he could get his way if he cried crocodile tears.

PROVERBS, IDIOMS AND MORE 3

The icing on the cake

The English idiom the icing on the cake is something that makes a good situation even better - just like how real icing makes a good cake taste even better! Here are two examples using this expression:

I like school, but learning math with Mr. Enkel is

the icing on the cake.

I was happy to move to our neighborhood. Having a playground across the street was
 the icing on the cake.

What could you describe as being the icing on the cake about going to your school?
