🧧 Chinese New Year 2026 – Year of the Horse

In Arts, we are celebrating the Chinese New Year by designing and colouring traditional bookmarks inspired by Chinese symbols and cultural elements.

This year, 2026, is the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac.

🐎 What does the Horse represent?

The Horse is a symbol of:

  • Energy

  • Strength

  • Freedom

  • Enthusiasm

  • Determination

In our classroom, we connect these qualities with our learning goals. We want to be energetic learners, work with perseverance, and move forward with confidence and creativity.

🎨 What are we learning through this one day project?

While creating our bookmarks, we are exploring different traditional Chinese symbols:

  • 🐉 Dragons – symbols of power and protection

  • 🏮 Lanterns – symbols of light and hope

  • 🧨 Firecrackers – symbols of celebration and good luck

  • 🦁 The Lion Dance – symbol of prosperity and joy

  • 🧧 Red envelopes – symbols of good wishes and fortune

  • 🐾 Animals of the Chinese zodiac – each year has a special meaning

Through this activity, we are working on:

  • Line and pattern

  • Symmetry and repetition

  • Vertical composition

  • Colour harmony

  • Cultural symbolism

🌍 Why is this important?

Learning about Chinese New Year helps us understand and respect different cultures around the world. Art is a powerful way to connect with traditions and express ideas visually.

This project combines creativity, cultural awareness and English language learning in a meaningful and engaging way.

Here is a genially to practice

💗 Woven Heart – Valentine’s Activity 💗

Here is the activity we're doing for Valentin'es day!!!

I hope you enjoy!

What are we doing?

Today we are weaving a paper heart. Your heart is already prepared.

Now your job is to weave carefully and create something beautiful.

🧵 Materials

  • Heart template (already cut)

  • Small patterned paper strips

  • Glue

  • Patience 😊

How to weave

  1. Take one patterned strip.

  2. Go over – under – over – under.

  3. Push it gently to the top.

  4. Take the next strip.

  5. Start the opposite way: under – over – under – over.

  6. Continue until your heart is full.

  7. Glue the ends carefully on the back.

Take your time. Don’t rush. The strips are small!

What does this heart represent?

This heart is made of many little strips.
Each strip is different, but together they create one strong heart.

It reminds us that:

  • Every person is important.

  • We are all different.

  • When we connect, we create something beautiful.

  • Kindness joins us together.

🌱 What is a Sustainable Lifestyle?

In Social Science, we are learning what a sustainable lifestyle is.

A sustainable lifestyle means taking care of our planet by using resources wisely, creating less waste and thinking about the future of the Earth 🌍.

One of the easiest and most important ways to live sustainably is by following The 3 R’s:

♻️ Reduce – Reuse – Recycle

And what better way to learn this than with music? 🎶
Let’s watch and listen to this fun and catchy video:

👉 The 3 R’s song
https://youtu.be/U6IbRSRe8MQ

🎵 The 3 R’s Song

The song reminds us that three is a magic number, because we have three important actions to help our planet:

🔹 Reduce

Reduce means using less and avoiding waste.

  • Bring your own bags when you go shopping.

  • Buy larger packages and use reusable containers.

  • Save energy by turning off lights and devices.

🔹 Reuse

Reuse means using things again instead of throwing them away.

  • Use both sides of paper.

  • Keep a “reuse box” for paper.

  • Use lunch boxes and reusable cups and plates.

  • Give old clothes to charity or use them as cleaning rags.

  • Save broken crayons for art projects.

🔹 Recycle

Recycle means turning waste into new materials.

  • Recycle aluminium cans and plastic bottles.

  • Did you know? Recycling one aluminium can saves enough energy to keep a light bulb on for 12 hours 💡

  • Put litter in the correct recycling bin.

🌍 Recycling Ideas for Everyday Life

Here are some easy ideas we can use at school and at home:

  • Use a hand towel instead of paper towels.

  • Bring reusable shopping bags.

  • Use pencils and erase mistakes instead of throwing paper away.

  • Use the library instead of buying lots of books.

  • Take small items home in your pocket instead of using a bag.

  • Encourage friends to use lunch boxes too.

👉 Remember: Litter is everybody’s responsibility.
