NATURAL: CONTOUR LINES

 

Contour lines are the curved lines you see on topographic maps.
Each contour line connects points that have the same height (elevation) above sea level.

What do they show?

They help us understand the shape of the land, including mountains, hills, and valleys, even though the map is flat.

How to read them:

• If contour lines are very close together, the slope is steep.

• If the lines are far apart, the land is flat or gently sloped.

• Lines that form closed loops usually show hills or mountains.

  The higher the contour line number, the higher the elevation.

En español, a las contour lines se les llama líneas de nivel.

¿Qué son?
Son líneas que aparecen en los mapas (sobre todo en los mapas físicos o mapas del relieve) y sirven para mostrar la altura del terreno.
Cada línea une puntos que están a la misma altitud sobre el nivel del mar.

Para entenderlo fácil con tu clase:

• Si ves las líneas muy juntas, significa que el terreno es muy inclinado / montaña.

• Si las líneas están separadas, significa que el terreno es más llano.

• Cuanto más arriba está la línea, más alta es la zona del mapa.
